Why Sanofi’s Zen study on
Hidradenitis Suppurativa is so important…

More common in women and African Americans, Hidradenitis is a chronic (on-going) skin disease/disorder that causes painful, itchy bumps or lumps (abscesses) that leak. These lumps, nodules or lesions are usually found in areas such as skin folds or where skin touches skin (like the armpit and upper thigh area). Left untreated, HS can progress and result in scarring and skin infections. Emotionally, some with HS may feel shame, not feeling in control and/or depressed—all of which can result in social isolation even though HS is NOT contagious or due to poor hygiene.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa, also known as Acne Inversa and Verneuil’s Disease, develops when hair follicles become blocked and may be the result of an overactive immune system. Triggers can include lotions or creams like deodorant, certain foods or stress, among others.

The Zen HS study is now assessing an investigational oral medication to see if it can help reduce the number of skin nodules in those with moderate-to-severe disease. In addition, researchers want to see if it can help to reduce flare-ups as well as symptoms like pain and itch.

Rest assured that even if you choose to enroll, you may still leave the study at any time, for any reason.
